Kitchen Chemistry

Be amazed and get a bit messy as we experiment with some science you can do with things from around the house.

Create color changing cabbage, experiment with some fun chemical reactions and get super hands-on with this science experience you can replicate at home!

Explore chemical and physical properties and reactions in this very messy, fun and colourful workshop!

Program Details

Run Time 1hr15min

Experience activities:

-Using beakers and pipettes, children will create a variety of chemical reactions. Some of these reactions will be used for activities such as self inflating balloons etc.

-Children will then see how cabbage changes colour to indicate how acidic something is. Children will explore how different substances turn the cabbage blue or red and everything in between.

-Next up, we create a non-Newtonian fluid. This simple to make slime has unique properties that allow it to act as both a liquid and a solid and children will explore how different actions make the slime behave differently.

-Finally children will make replica human snot! Children will use a range of scientific equipment, such as beakers and flasks to create this familiar yet gross slime.

Kitchen Chemistry has the option of a take-home element.

All cleaning up is done by Little Labs, and plastic table covers are supplied when required.

Protective equipment like lab coats are provided however it should be noted there is always a chance some clothing may get dirty (it’s best not to wear that Gucci top, sorry!)

Little Labs will arrive approx. 15 minutes early to set up, and we ask for 15 minutes after the session has ended to pack up.
